Emerson Cup Sets New Trend for Building Design Industry

The 2008 Emerson Cup Digital Scroll Central Air Conditioning Design Application Competition Closes with Ring Success

Chongqing China, November 4, 2008 — Emerson  Climate  Technologies  announced today   that   the  2008   Emerson  Cup  has concluded  with  great  success  as  winners were  honored  at  the  16th   China  HVAC  Forum   at   the   Chongqing   International Convention and Exhibition Center.

The   2008   Emerson   Cup   Digital   Scroll Central Air Conditioning Design Application  Competition  saw   a   record   number   of  competition  entries with  a  total of 456,  an increase of 15 percent over last year. All the entries to the 6th Emerson Cup competition have marked improvement in design quality over  last  year.   All  this  shows  the  Digital Scroll   Technology   of   Emerson   Climate Technologies has been well acknowledged and accepted  by  industry  experts  and  customers alike.

A total of 50 design entries garnered prizes in three competition categories.  In Design Institutes Group, the Outstanding Prize went to the Restoration Project of the Red Building of Peking University while the Public Health Center of Wuzhong City won the First Prize with 15 others taking up the Second and Third prizes. Eighteen projects won different awards in the Dealers Group where the Qingdao Yujingfeng Residential Community was given the top prize of the Best Residential Design Award with R & D Building of Beixin Building Materials and New Office Building of Jingdezhen Tobacco Company winning the First Prize and the Best Technological Progress Award respectively.  The Students Group saw 13 winners. Winning the much coveted Future Star awards were Luoyu Road Meteorological Tower, Lujiang Shiji Temple Academy and Engineering Building of Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology.

The Restoration Project of the Red Building of Peking University, winner of Emerson Cup’s top prize of Outstanding Prize in Design Institutes Group, is a perfect example where the beauty of traditional Chinese architecture merges with the convenience of the world advanced technology.  The difficult and complex restoration project has demonstrated to the industry the broader application of Digital Scroll Technology.  By its clever and intelligent design employing the Digital Scroll Technology, the project not only preserved the original beauty of the building and its surrounding, but also upgraded its heating system, providing a much more comfortable experience.

Special attention should be given to Emerson Cup’s new award, the Digital Heating Application Prize. It was created to encourage and acknowledge designers who employ the ultra-low temperature digital scroll heat pump technology in central air conditioning designs. Experts highly appreciated this revolutionary and energy-efficient technology and its broad applications in the low-temperature and harsh environment in the northern part of China.  Merchant Villas in Miyun County Greening Base of Beijing and Junying Yucai School of Dandong, Liaoning Province became the first ever proud winners of the Cup’s newest addition of application category.

Mr. Xu Wei, President of China Academy of Energy Conservation Research, said “With its ever-increasing influence in our industry, Emerson Cup Digital Scroll Central Air Conditioning Design Application Competition has provided a new point of reference for formulating the standard of the building design industry. In the past, we consulted only experts and manufacturers for comments and recommendations.  Starting this year, we will expand the group to include all Emerson Cup participants. We believe that because these outstanding and experienced designers are on the front line and closer to reality, their comments will help us formulate standards that are more practical in their applications.”

After six years, Emerson Cup has become a heavyweight annual event of the Chinese HVAC industry, promoting the application of energy-saving technologies and recognizing excellent projects and outstanding talents.  The six Emerson Cup competitions have honored nearly 200 talents and 150 projects with more than 1,200 participants. These show that the Digital Scroll Technology has been widely acknowledged and accepted by the market.
