Emerson Chairman Attends the 2009 International Consulting Conference on Development in Jiangsu
Illustrating the new opportunities and ideas for Jiangsu’s industrial restructuring in the context of the international financial crisis

NANJING, JIANGSU, September 9, 2009 — David N. Farr, chairman, CEO and president of Emerson ( NYSE: EMR ), attended the 2009 International Consulting Conference on Development in Jiangsu here today, sharing the new opportunities and ideas for Jiangsu’s industrial restructuring in the context of the international financial crisis. Farr was invited as an economic advisor since 2005 by the provincial government.
Farr indicated that the current economic situation is more severe than previous recessions. Although China has also been hit by the global economic
downturn, its economy is performing relatively well compared to other economies and is showing signs of recovery. The economic stimulus package has been well done and very targeted.
Talking about Jiangsu’s industrial restructuring and economy recovery, Farr expressed that, there are both opportunities and challenges, Emerson appreciates that Jiangsu government has strategies and plans to strengthen the key industries in the province, and understands the government’s goals in setting its sights on new sectors to restore economic growth. |

From Emerson’s development milestone and its experiences dealing with financial crisis, Farr also gave suggestions on encouragement of innovation, enhancing the development of local enterprises, adopting the available energy efficiency standards and further investment in education.
