BEIJING, May 13, 2006 ? Emerson, (NYSE: EMR), is continuing its support of the Beijing Speaks a Foreign Language program with a RMB 150,000 donation to produce educational materials as part of the 2006 Beijing Foreign Language Week.

The 2006 Beijing Foreign Language Week, an event co-sponsored by the Committee of Beijing Speaks Foreign Language Program, the Foreign Affair Office of Beijing Municipal Government, the Publicity Department of CPC Beijing Committee and the Government of Chaoyang District and supported by organizations including the Cultural Activities Department of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (?BOCOG?), will be launched on Saturday May 13 in Chaoyang Park, Beijing.

Emerson has sponsored the production of 30,000 copies of English 1000 booklets inclusive of CDs, learning materials developed by the Beijing Speaks a Foreign Language program committee as part of the 2006 Beijing Foreign Language Week, with this year's theme Learn a Foreign Language to Welcome the Beijing Olympics?

Dadong Zhao, general manager of Emerson China, together with Emerson China employees, participated in the opening ceremony and helped in the free distribution of booklets and CDs to Beijing citizens.

Emerson's involvement in the Beijing Speaks Foreign Language program began last year when the company donated RMB 150,000 to sponsor the printing and distribution of 100,000 complimentary copies of English learning booklet entitled Beijing Speaks English, in support of the 2005 Beijing Foreign Language Week.

This year's language booklets will be supported with educational CDs to help Beijing citizens learn English in preparation for welcoming foreign visitors to the city during the much anticipated Beijing 2008 Olympic.

Emerson has been active in China since the late 1970s, and the country is among the fastest-growing regions in Emerson's global business, explained Dadong Zhao general manager of Emerson China.

Emerson is committed to giving its full support to the concept of the People's Olympics, by improving people's foreign languages capabilities and cultivating a international environment for Beijing in an effort to contribute our small part to the overall success of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, he said.

Emerson attaches great importance to its support of the success of the Olympics Games to be hosted in China for the first time.  Emerson has previously made a donation of RMB 415,000 to the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games to be held in Shanghai.

The company has also helped to promote the concept of a Green Olympics with support and participation in a tree-planting ceremony under the theme The Olympics Promotes Friendship sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce, Beijing Municipal Government and the BOCOG, in 2004.

Emerson has provided the technology that ignites and maintains the iconic flame of the Olympics that inspires all athletes. The host cities of both the summer and winter Olympics, including Torino, Athens, Sydney and Atlanta, have benefited from Emerson's unique technology and expertise.

In addition, Emerson China has continued its corporate citizenship effort including the Lifeline Express program, the Project Hope scheme and donations for the earthquake, tsunami and disease-stricken regions of Asia. Emerson will continue to engage in China's community development efforts and fulfill its obligations as a responsible corporate citizen.
