Emerson COO Monser Meets with Guangdong Governor

Guangzhou China (March 20, 2006)—Emerson (NYSE: EMR) Chief Operating Officer Edward L. Monser met with Huang Huahua, Governor of Guangdong Province. They held friendly discussions about issues of mutual concern. Monser is currently appointed as one of the economic advisors to Governor Huang.

Huang expressed his pleasure of meeting with Monser and his delegation. Monser gave an update of Emerson’s business presence and latest developments in Guangdong, emphasizing that not only is Guangdong the earliest location in which Emerson began investments in Mainland China, but also the province where Emerson has made the largest investment and with the largest number of employees. Governor Huang expressed appreciation of Monser’s role as an economic advisor and his constructive advice on the promotion of development mode based on conservation and environmental protection as well as on the strengthening the ability of innovation, as recommended in the report submitted earlier.

Governor Huang said that the 2005 advisory report prepared by James G. Berges, former president of Emerson and economic advisor, was much helpful to Guangdong in regard to areas of power and infrastructure, human resources, education, and public security. Governor Huang also expressed that the Emerson management process and suggestions offered by Peter Yam, president of Emerson Greater China, were also of great value to the province.

Monser expressed his gratitude to the Guangdong provincial government for their continuous generous support to Emerson. He said he was confident in the investment environment in Guangdong, saying that the development of science and technology in Guangdong was attractive to Emerson, and the rapid growth of Emerson’s R&D in Guangdong facilitates the good services to the company’s global R&D.

Monser also emphasized on Emerson’s commitment to energy efficiency, saying that with the global energy shortages, Emerson is dedicated to the continuous endeavor supporting the formulation and implementation of energy efficiency standards for the Chinese government.

Monser and Governor Huang exchanged souvenirs to commemorate the mutually beneficial meeting.
