2007 CEO Roundtable and A/C Energy Efficiency Symposium
Held in Beijing

Advocate
Energy Conservation and Improve Air-conditioner Energy Efficiency

Industry leaders Gather to promote the air conditioner energy efficiency in China

June 7, 2007, BEIJING – The 2007 CEO Roundtable and Air Conditioner Energy Efficiency Symposium took place in Beijing on Thursday.  The event was organized by the Energy Efficiency Label Management Center of the Chinese National Institution of Standardization (CNIS), and supported by Emerson Climate Technologies.  The symposium was designed to promote energy efficiency technologies and products, and accelerate the adoption of high efficiency air conditioners in China.  The event is part of the National Energy Saving Propaganda Week, and is supported by the Resource Department of the National Development and Reform Commission, the Measurement and Test Department of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, and the Certification Regulation Department of Certification and Accreditation Administration.

China has required energy efficiency labels on room air conditioners for two years presently.  As of March 1, 2007, China also adopted the energy efficiency label for unit air conditioners and has seen great economic and social benefits.  To date, 413 companies manufacturing room air conditioners, unit air conditioners, refrigerators, and washing machines have applied for energy efficiency certification.  Regarding room air conditioners sector, 79 companies have completed certification procedures for 6431 models, and for the unit air conditioner sector, 14 companies have obtained certification for 560 models.  According certification records, energy efficiency levels of most air conditioners in the market are Level 4 or Level 5, and only a few are Level 1 or Level 2.  China is one of the largest air-conditioner markets and sales of home appliances, including air conditioners, are constantly on the rise.  Therefore, the energy efficiency of air conditioners is an urgent issue for the country, as is the promotion of energy efficient air conditioners.

In order to “Advocate Energy Conservation and Improve Air-conditioner Energy Efficiency,” the symposium was host to industry experts, HVAC/R executives, and government leaders who spoke about energy efficiency as well as the energy labels.  The highlight of the day was the 2007 CEO Roundtable Discussion, which featured a panel of government officials, industry experts, and senior management from leading businesses in the HVAC industry.  The face-to-face discussion focused on challenges, possibilities, and the future in promoting energy efficiency in China, as well as how to advance the promotion in a synchronized way.

At the symposium, Emerson Climate Technologies discussed its public awareness study on energy efficiency and conservation.  The consumer survey was launched by Emerson Climate Technologies to acquire information and input from consumers on the acceptance of energy efficiency technology as well as the adoption of energy efficiency labels.  The panelists discussed this survey during the CEO Roundtable Discussion.

The 2007 CEO Roundtable and A/C Energy Efficiency Symposium provided a platform for regulators, industry associations, manufacturers, and other parties to communicate with each other to further promote energy efficiency labels.  During the symposium, representatives from all parties agreed that energy conservation requires dedication and support from the entire industry.  The energy efficiency technology providers, as well as the air conditioner manufacturers and distributors accept the responsibility to encourage and educate consumers to make an informed purchase decision.  The Chinese National Institution of Standardization plays a large role in incorporating all of the manufactures to promote energy efficiency labels.  Since coming to China, Emerson Climate Technologies has been committed to corporate social responsibility in the market, the advancement of energy efficient technology for air conditioners, and the increase in consumer awareness of energy conservation.

As China continues to build an energy-saving society, standardize its market, and increase consumer awareness of energy conservation, the regulation and certification of energy efficiency labels will improve and energy efficiency labels will play a greater role in saving energy and promoting efficiency.

The event was broadcast live on trade website ABI (www.abi.com.cn).  The website will be archiving the live footage from this year’s event for users to view.
