ASCO®
7000 Series Transfer Switch
ASCO's
7000 Series Transfer Switches, which automatically start
a generator and transfer critical power loads when normal
power fails, were designed using simulation software
and feature several new enhancements in transfer switch
technology. For example, the 7000 Series allows for
foreign language interfaces and 15 international voltages.
It uses a single controller that handles all six transfer
applications. The controller also has the market's first
data logging capability, which provides a history of
when a switch transferred and why.
Liebert's
Little Glass House®
Liebert's
Little Glass House is a totally integrated solution
to computer network support and systems availability
problems. This specially designed enclosure provides
computer-grade environmental control for cooling the
event of a power failure. It also utilizes Liebert's
advanced technology in Uninterruptible Power Systems
(UPS) to provide protection from power surges and outages.
Liebert's Little Glass House was recognized by several
trade publications as among the network power industry's
best new products when it was introduced in 1998/99.

Process Management
PlantWeb®
Emerson's
PlantWeb® process automation technology,
which combines Emerson's leading-edge DeltaV PC-based
control system with intelligent field-based devices
and innovative software, enables industrial customers
to realize new levels of efficiency in their operations.
This powerful tool not only automates, but also monitors,
troubleshoots, and provides diagnostics for the thousands
of aspects critical to running a plant. Before PlantWeb®
technology was available, the construction and configuration
of monitoring systems in a plant was complicated, as
each device had a dedicated wire to the control room.
Now a plant can run on a digital bus system, making
wiring easier and less expensive. Customers utilize
PlantWeb® to increase plant up-time and
improve process performance.
e-fficiencyTM
In
June 2001, Emerson Process Management unveiled e-fficiencyTM,
a proven Internet-based service that delivers information
about performance of process plant equipment directly
to a web browser for easy and secure access by process
manufacturing customers. This innovation makes Emerson
the first company to apply the latest Internet technologies
to equipment performance monitoring in the process industries.
Designed
specifically for personnel involved with maintenance,
reliability or rotating equipment, e-fficiency
service provides easy access to a comprehensive set
of performance results, customized reports and graphical
representations for monitoring plant equipment performance,
all within a secure web-based environment. The service
supports all major process plant equipment, including
compressors, gas and steam turbines, heat exchangers,
furnaces and pumps.

Copeland®
Digital Scroll
The
HVAC industry first began to explore modulated scroll
compressor technology in the 1980s. Changes in technology
and consumer preferences have created a need for new
ways to modulate cooling systems, but the end goal has
always been to design a cooling system capable of continuously
adapting to meet changes in ambient conditions and ultimately
deliver greater comfort, energy cost savings, and improved
reliability.
Copeland®
Scroll compressors with digital technology are an addition
to the modulated product line, offering commercial users
modulated compression technology for variable capacity
control. Digital scroll provides a single-compressor
solution for broad capacity modulation. This digital
technology allows a compressor to run at any capacity
between 10% and 100%, making infinite adjustments along
the way. An external solenoid valve controls the loading
and unloading of the scrolls through system signaling
based on system capacity demand.
Digital
scroll is a good choice for modulation anywhere multi-evaporator
systems or precise temperature control is employed.
In air conditioning, there is a need for digital scroll
in large commercial applications as well as in precision
cooling, such as computer rooms and telecommunications.
For commercial refrigeration, this approach can be used
in storage cases in convenience stores, restaurants
and other food service applications. Commercial users
will also benefit from lower applied and operating costs.
Because the system is not starting and stopping every
time the environment in a room or inside a cooler changes,
it runs more efficiently, driving operating costs even
lower.

Metro®
Crash
Carts
The
Lifeline™ Emergency Cart from InterMetro was specifically
engineered to live up to their name—to be lifelines.
An exclusive convertible caster system and lightweight
construction allows Lifeline™ to be easily maneuvered
and positioned at the code site. Specially designed
storage areas for vital medication and equipment provide
immediate and simultaneous access by Code Response Team
members. The Lifeline™ cart features a Sharps container
holder right where you need it—on the cart. It
also features a defibrillator platform that allows the
defibrillator to swing closer to the patient and expose
additional workspace for other team members. Molded
polymer construction, removable drawers and the use
of other rust-resistant materials make the Lifeline™
Cart easy to clean and maintain. An assortment of drawers
and accessories allows the Lifeline cart to be customized
to meet your specific needs.

Motor Technologies
Electric
Traction Motors for Next-Generation Vehicles
Working
with automobile manufacturers, such as Ecostar (a joint
venture of fuel-cell maker Ballard Power Systems, Ford
Motor Company, and DaimlerChrysler) and Peugot in France,
Emerson is creating advanced drive systems that completely
replace the internal combustion engine. With the help
of Emerson's electric motor technologies, these manufacturers
are developing more efficient and environmentally friendly
transportation.
Emerson
Appliance Solutions
Whirlpool®
Calypso™ Washing Machine
The
Emerson Appliance Motor Division worked side by side
with Whirlpool to develop a variable speed motor solution
for the new Calypso™ Washing machine. The truly
unique design characteristics of this application provided
both companies an interesting challenge to develop a
high performance, adaptive motor and motor control with
high reliability and low cost. Emerson supported Whirlpool
with on site project management and engineering, and
as well as complete support of all operational and quality
aspects of this program at Whirlpool's manufacturing
facilities.
